10 Things You Should Completely Remove From Your Diet



Diets don’t work. At least not for very long. And I don’t agree with the idea that some diets work for some people while other diets work for others. Um, no, it doesn’t work like that. We should all strive to live our lives in a healthy manner. We should care about what we put into our systems, and how we feel, as well as how we look in our appearance. I mean, obviously, looks aren’t everything, and we all pretty much know that. However, we should still care about how we present and carry ourselves. We should be whole and complete, and be willing to improve ourselves from within by being a good person, and simply, by being the best version of ourselves, but also, by loving ourselves enough to live a predominantly healthy lifestyle.

The best way to live a healthy lifestyle, is to care about what we eat, what we drink, and how active we are on a daily basis. We shouldn’t have to restrict or deprive ourselves from things that we love. We should eat what our body craves. But we should also learn to love things that are good for us, make us feel good, and that taste good. We shouldn’t be indulging in things that feel good to eat, drink, or enjoy in a mere moment of pleasure, but that are ultimately bad for us. We should develop a taste for foods that are nutritious, but that also taste good. And you know what they say, we should think before we speak and act. But also, we should think before we eat, drink, and before we choose to go down the wrong path. So many of us are settling for short term light and long term darkness, from immediate gratification by eating and drinking bad foods, which in the end will give us nothing more than clogged arteries, no energy, and likely, fatter thighs, and bigger belly.

Remember, diets don’t work, but a healthy lifestyle does. We should indulge once in awhile, and I definitely believe in moderation being the key to a truly happy life and an all around healthy lifestyle. However, following a lifestyle of doing things in moderation, doesn’t mean that you should eat bad food in moderation. But rather, it means, eat a few bites of something that you crave, but without overeating or even worse, eating the worst possible foods, and even on occasion. Believe it or not, some foods I truly believe that we should completely remove from our diets.

Here’s a list of 10 things to completely remove from your diet.

1. Doughnuts and other deep fried foods

There’s never a good reason to eat foods that are this bad for you. Doughnuts, fried chicken, and Thanks but no thanks. Talk about short term light and long term darkness. There will not only be short term light indulging in a doughnut, but one feel heavy, tired, lazy, and lack energy throughout the day, despite the short term sugar rush.

2.  Coffee creamer

Best rule of thumb is, that if you don’t know what the ingredients are in a product, don’t put it into your body. There are endless studies saying why coffee creamer is so bad for your health. And honestly, it’s just one of those products that are best to avoid altogether. Coffee creamer, and yes, even non-dairy coffee creamer, is so bad for your health, but will also make you gain weight, as well as make you bloated for nearly weeks after drinking it.

And for Vegans or any others who might’ve watched the recent “What the Health” on Netflix, or who simply wants to avoid dairy products, thinking that non-dairy creamer will be a good option if let’s say, they can’t stand almond or soy milk in their coffee, think twice. Non-dairy creamer is not the way to go, at least, not if you care about maintaining your weight or if perhaps you’re trying to lose weight. I recently fell in love with Knudsen’s non-dairy creamer which is usually served at Coffee Bean, and I’m telling you, the stuff actually takes like pure whipped cream, and I loved it! BUT, I became more bloated than post baby delivery and couldn’t figure out why. Now I know. Again, you should know and care about the ingredients that you ingest. Now, it’s black coffee for me. Back to Nespresso.

3. Processed meat

Say no to drugs and deli-meats. Deli meats have been shown to increase the risk for certain types of cancer, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and death at an earlier age. Need I say more.

4. All soda, and yes, diet soda too.

We’ve been fooled by companies and now we’re addicted. One of the worst habits, is drinking soda and other drinks when you can’t even pronounce the ingredients. One of the worst things that you can do to your body is drink soda. Focus on what you can eat and drink that will be good and benefit your body and all around health, rather than to indulge in garbage like Coca Cola and Pepsi, which by the way I hear have become great toilet bowl cleaners when you simply pour them in and let them sit for a few minutes—no joke. The diet sodas all make you fat around your waist and completely bloated, despite their lack of calories, because those ingredients that you most likely struggle pronouncing are the culprits for that bloat, weight gain, and addiction.

5. Fast food

Do you like riddles?
What’s bad for you inside and out? Fast food, greasy food, and foods that are processed. Say NO to all fast food. Fast food is bad for your health, your weight, your skin, and your energy level. I’m sure the list could go on.

6. Anything that needs to be microwaved

Yep you heard me right folks, throw away your microwaves. No one needs to have a microwave. I don’t own one, and definitely by choice. When I had a microwave, I would buy foods that were easier to prepare and took little to no effort, which would also be the types of foods that would be processed and not what would be considered anything remotely healthy. Having said that, I know that I’m not alone when I say that having a microwave makes you want to buy microwavable foods. You’ll get used to not having a microwave quicker than you think. Especially when you know how truly bad microwaves are for you and your food.

Microwaves diminish most of the nutrients in foods, kill Vitamin B12, completely ruin breast milk, and if you use any type of plastic or tupperware container, it’s known to release carcinogens as well as other harmful toxins into the food. And why I ask you, would anyone who knows this and truly cares about their life and the lives of their loved ones, put anything in the microwave. Last but not least, there are many studies showing that your heart rate changes when there’s use of a microwave. And despite the fact that federal safety guidelines approve it, to have a pointless item that heats up food while killing nutrients, reinforcing laziness, and possibly causing cancer, why have it when it also has the ability to change your heart rate. I mean, come on, what sign are we waiting for to stop eating, drinking, and using things that are bad for us, before we find out how truly harmful they are.

7. Anything that’s high in sodium 

Some things that you may or may not have known that contain loads of sodium are as follows:

  • Deli meats
  • Canned foods
  • Cottage cheese, as well as many other cheeses
  • Soy sauce, salad dressings, Ketchup, as well as many other condiments
  • Roasted and salted nuts and seeds
  • Chips, pretzels, etc.
  • Frozen foods like cheese pizza, etc.
  • In a nutshell, avoid all processed foods

We only need a small amount of sodium each day. However, we need to have enough of it as well.  Not enough sodium could also be bad. But too much sodium can causing excessive bloating by making you hold onto water. Not to mention, consuming too much sodium can also cause very serious concerns like increasing one’s risk of heart failure, having a stroke, getting kidney disease, or even stomach cancer.

8. Bad sugar 

Cut out the sucrose, high fructose corn syrup, and all other bad sugars as much as possible. Coming from someone who has a self-diagnosed candy addiction, and consumed more candy, sweets, and bottled coffee than I’d like to publicly admit, this one really drills a hole. Yet still, it’s best to completely cut out the candy and bad sugar from your diet. I haven’t eaten candy or any sugar other than fresh fruit since November 4, last year (2016), and yes I’m counting days, and yes as well, I still miss it like crazy. Twizzlers… ooh… O.K., O.K., I thought writing about it would be easier than talking about it—guess not.

Now, although candy isn’t good for you at all, kids should experience life and at least know what all the fuss is about. Having said that, I don’t believe in introducing candy or bad sugars to young kids until they’re a little older, and understand what is is that they’re eating. The candy addiction starts at a very young age for many, and just when we’re developing our tastes. I’ve definitely been called out for not giving my kids sugar when they were younger as well. But I never cared, and I did what I felt was right, and now my kids don’t go crazy when it comes to candy like many other kids. More so, they like the idea of eating candy and sweets more than actually indulging in it.

And tell me this, who was the brainiac genius who decided to put sugar on fresh fruit? And what the hell are they thinking. Yuck, not to mention, fruit is already sweet. How about we put some sugar on your sugar. Geez Louise. And folks, stop eating dried fruit unless it clearly states that it’s unsulphured, and even then, remember that calories count and you need to burn more calories in a day than you consume to lose weight, and you need to at least burn as many calories as you consume to maintain your weight. And eating dried unsulphured fruit has so many calories, it’s ridiculous. Stay away from candy, and basically all sugar as much as possible. Here’s where moderation plays a role. I’d say that it’s pretty much O.K. to indulge in sweets here and there. But if you can, choose to eat fruit rather than candy, cake, doughnuts, pastries, cookies, cupcakes, sugary drinks, milkshakes, ice cream, yogurt, and yes, even from all of those toxic sugary substitutes that claim to be good for you.

9. Gum

Gum has sugar substitutes like sugar alcohol, as well as some other artificial sweeteners. A lot of these sugar alcohols cause hunger, bloating, and flatulence. And yes, even though you’re just chewing the gum and not swallowing it, these are still a few of the not so marvelous side effects. I mean, who would think, that in a million years, something with no sugar or even no fat like the old school, fat-free Wow Frito-Lay’s potato chips that contained the ingredient Olestra could have such major side effects—abdominal cramps and loose stools, aka anal leakage. Pretty disturbing, right? How these products get to the market is beyond me. Many times, if not most of the time, people just want to sell their product, and even if or when it hurts people, as long as they’re making the green. Sad, just sad. Love yourself and your family enough to care what you chew on. Chew on some wisdom about why you shouldn’t chew gum.

10. Oreo cookies


Oreo Cookies are one of the worst and most addictive cookies ever made. They contain ingredients that most people have never even heard of. And in case you didn’t know, kids usually love them, and yes, many adults love them too. My son had the worst food allergies when he was a baby until he was about 4 years old. He was allergic to eggs, milk, soy, and peanuts, and even tiny traces of them. Kids before the age of 4 usually get rid of most of their allergies, although sometimes they carry them into adulthood. Having said that, Oreo cookies contain every single ingredient that my son was allergic to. He would eat them, and his nose was merely one of the few things that ended up becoming double stuffed.
