In today’s fast-paced world, finding a place where one can relax can be a real problem, and unfortunately, we can’t just move to a spa. An ideal solution would be recreating that feeling we have in a spa in our own homes – but how do we do that with whirring machines and sauce dripping from the countertop to the floor? It is possible though, and you might be surprised how easy!
Incorporate the Two-Minute Rule
This is something that has the potential to change your life, and yes, it can do so in just two minutes. The rule says: if it takes less than two minutes to do it, do it now. It might not sound like much, but the thing is, there are so many little chores that only take a minute or so. Not attending to them right away makes for a pile of work afterward. Hang your coat when you get home. Scrub the shower right after you get out of it. Fold your clothes or take them to the laundry. Wash a dirty mug or a plate. When you start incorporating this rule and thinking about two minutes all the time, your home will almost magically become a clean, tidy place where you actually enjoy being.
Make It Cozy with Candles and Blankets
Once it’s clean with the help of the Two-Minute Rule (but it doesn’t mean you’re done with weekly cleaning – only that it will take less time!), you don’t want to make it sterile. Give your home a little calming atmosphere by placing candles of different sizes on the coffee table and floor. The gentle flickering light of a candle can create a very relaxing atmosphere; even better if it comes with a scent.
If you like spending your time on a couch or have a favorite armchair, add a soft warm blanket for extra coziness!
Enjoy the Right Temperature
One of the things that prevent us from feeling good at home is it being too hot or too cold. Luckily, there’s an easy solution to this, and it comes in the form of quality air conditioning. If you use it in the right way – meaning, not creating a penguin house when it’s hot outside – it can do wonders for the feeling of that at-home-spa. The great thing about air conditioning is that you can totally personalize it, so if you genuinely do enjoy being in a penguin house, you can do that. On the other hand, if you like your place warm, that’s one click away. Make sure you take care of your health though.
Have the Most Relaxing Bedroom
What do you usually do in your bedroom? The key to the most relaxing bedroom you can ever have is to reserve it for sleep (and intimacy). Late night shows and working on your laptop should be banned from the bedroom, as well as endless scrolling through social media. Actually, to make it the calmest and most relaxing room in the house, it should be free of cell phones altogether. If you need help waking up in the morning, buy an old-fashioned alarm clock.
Another important thing about your sleeping haven is that it should be absolutely clutter-free. Since you will be only sleeping there, make sure you don’t keep any items related to work, kids, or leisure anywhere in it. That way it will be inviting every time you step into it; and when clutter free and calm, with the addition of good quality bed sheets, your room can even improve your sleep and your wellbeing.
Add Some Flora
If gardening has always been your thing, you will probably enjoy taking care of a small garden, or a number of plants in case you live in an apartment. On the other hand, if you’re afraid you would kill a plant, or even have a history of having done that, don’t fret: it doesn’t mean you cannot have this addition to a calm environment. There’s a tutorial for everything online, but if you don’t want to take your chances, succulents are your best bet. They don’t need a lot of care, but they look lovely nevertheless and contribute to an oasis-like home.
Whatever you do, it is important to know that a home will be the most relaxing if it caters to the needs and habits of the owner. Know what makes you calm, and it will be easy to create a place you will never want to leave.
